Increase to Medicare (Better Access) Rebate
As of the 1st November 2011 the rebate available through the Better Access to Mental Health Program through Medicare (Mental Health Plan) has increased. Now if you have a Mental Health Plan from your doctor you will receive $122.15 back from Medicare when seeing an accredited Clinical Psychologist. Changes to number of psychology sessions allowed through Better Access – Medicare
As discussed in an earlier post, in the May 2011 budget the Federal Government proposed a cut to the number of sessions allowed through the Better Access initiative (Medicare Mental Health Plan). E-Petition launched against Federal Government cuts to Medicare funding for Mental Health
Earlier this year the Federal Government announced proposed cuts to the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative which allows individuals with diagnosed mental health disorders to access Medicare rebates for mental health services, including psychological treatment. From 1 November 2011, the maximum number of psychological treatment sessions available to individuals each year will be cut from 18 to 10, with no exceptional circumstances permitting rebates for additional sessions. Federal Government announces changes to Better Access to Mental Health scheme through Medicare
In the recent budget the Federal Government announced changes to the current Better Access to Mental Health scheme through Medicare. Currently people have been able to access 12 sessions per year (and sometimes 18 sessions in exceptional circumstances). This was done in 6 session blocks through your GP. From the 1st November 2011 that has been cut to 10 sessions per year - an initial 6 sessions, followed by an additional 4 sessions if required. ...
